Brigantine Students Step Up to Support Local Cancer Patients with Walk-A-Thon

Students at Brigantine Community School are preparing to make a meaningful impact in their community as they participate in a Walk-A-Thon scheduled for May 8. The event will benefit the South Jersey Cancer Fund, an organization dedicated to providing financial assistance and support to local individuals and families facing a cancer diagnosis.

The Walk-A-Thon is designed not only to raise funds, but also to inspire teamwork, generosity, and school spirit among students. A friendly grade-level competition has been introduced to encourage participation, with each grade working together to raise as much money as possible leading up to the event. The grade that collects the highest amount in donations will be rewarded with a special lunchtime celebration, choosing between an ice cream party or a pizza party.

In addition to their fundraising efforts, students will also take part in a service project by creating “get well” cards for patients supported by the South Jersey Cancer Fund. These handmade messages aim to provide encouragement, compassion, and a sense of community to those currently undergoing treatment.

School staff and event organizers say the initiative is an opportunity for students to learn the value of giving back while supporting a cause that directly impacts families in the region. This is about more than just raising money—it’s about showing kindness and letting people know they are not alone during difficult times.

Because this is a private event for Brigantine Community School students, community members are encouraged to get involved by sponsoring a specific grade’s fundraising efforts. Donors are asked to include the grade level they wish to support when making their contribution. To sponsor, follow the South Jersey Cancer Fund on Facebook at facebook.com/southjerseycancerfund for full details, updates, and instructions on how to donate.

With growing excitement leading up to the event, Brigantine Community School students are proving that even small steps—taken together—can make a lasting impact for local cancer patients and their families.
