What an event! Close to $3,000 raised to help breast cancer patients in need of financial support! Thanks to Marisella Dillinger, Instructor, Anne Breyer, SJCF Treasurer, and the entire cast of Zumba Instructors who made this event such a success!

The fantastic close knit community of Hammonton was out in full force to support this annual worthwhile event.  Thank You Hammonton Cancer Foundation for all you do toward financial support of cancer patients in our local communities

Anne Breyer, SJCF Treasurer (right) proudly displays the Mermaid Quilt with the lucky winner Mary Soecis. The event took place on November 20th at the last Brigantine Farmer’s Market of the year. 

We will be raffling off a most unique quilt for those beach lovers at the upcoming Farmers Market on November 20th. The “Mermaid Quilt” was designed by Carol Poole, a national quilt competition winner and lecturer at the Fashion Institute of New York. Her award winning quilts have been exhibited in shows in New York, Florida and Georgia. She continues to teach in Florida. 

Carol picked  mermaids as they symbolize renewal. “Since mermaids are tied to the water element,” said Carole, “they embody the revitalization that water brings. The Mermaid Quilt was inspired by this concept.”

The raffle will take place at the Brigantine Farmers Market on November 20th. The tickets are $10 each. If you wish to purchase tickets in advance, please call Mary Crane @321-749-6749 or email her at marycrane46@comcast.net.

On November 6, Every Breath Counts held its annual Walk/Run in Ventnor, NJ. All proceeds from their event will go directly to three lung cancer focused organizations including South Jersey Cancer Fund.  

With the pandemic, outdoor events are our focus!  Four more baskets were raffled off at the Brigantine Farmer’s Market the end of August.  Lucky winners were Angela Farfala (Beach Basket), Liz Tomeo (Swiffer Cleaning Set), Kip Walker (Welcome Basket), and Joanne Zicardi (Sunshine Basket).

Hammonton Fire Companies 1 and 2  bought custom-designed T-shirts and donated funds to support Breast Cancer Awareness month and presented the $475 they raised to the Hammonton Cancer Foundation.

“The fire companies help our community,” said Fire Chief Sean Macri, “and we think this is an area where we could help the organization with a donation since it has been a lackluster fund raising season because of everything going on. We are grateful we can help the Hammonton Cancer Foundation.”

“This year has been extremely difficult for our members and the people that we intend to help because of the shutdowns,” said David Mauriello, the foundation’s president. “Thanks to organizations like our volunteer fire companies, we will still be able to continue the fight.”

The Hammonton Police Department is honoring  Breast Cancer Awareness this month by having officers wear pink-colored badges. Department  records and dispatch members will wear pink or black shirts emblazoned with the HPD emblem in a contrasting color. All members participating will donate funds that will be presented to the Hammonton Cancer Foundation at the end of October.

“We protect the community by enforcing and educating about laws, said Chief Kevin Friel. “but we also protect our community’s health and wellbeing by providing awareness of the different types of cancers. And, as part of this current effort, each week a different form of cancer is explained on the department’s Facebook site.”

The Hammonton Cancer Foundation is proud of our relationship with the Hammonton Police Department,” said David Mauriello, the foundation’s president. “In these difficult times, we are fortunate to get support from groups like this so we can continue to meet our goal of  ‘Helping Our Neighbors.’”
