2024 Walk ‘N Roll 5K for Lung Cancer Awareness
The Fooks Family gather to commemorate the event – (Left to right) Anthony D’Agostino, his wife, his son, Sebastian Le Toux (retired soccer player), Theresa Fooks, Deanna Fooks and Ronnie Fooks.
On the morning of September 21, 2024 the 9th annual Walk ‘N Roll 5K for Lung Cancer Awareness was held at the beautiful Parvin State Park in Salem County in honor of Ron Fooks, Sr. Ron lost his life to lung cancer on Thanksgiving morning 2013 after a valiant 3-year long battle with the disease. His loving family including wife Theresa, daughter Deanna, son Ronnie and nephew Anthony hold this annual walk in his honor, graciously donating the event’s proceeds (over $8,600.00 this year alone) to South Jersey Cancer Fund to help others who are facing their own battles with lung cancer.
2024 Monday Night Football Fundraiser
At the Cove Restaurant in Brigantine, football and philanthropy came together for a special cause on Monday night. SJCF hosted their Monday Night Football event, drawing in sports fans, locals, and supporters eager to make a difference. The restaurant buzzed with excitement as the big game played on screens, but the real victory of the night was the community’s generosity.
With raffles, auctions and donations pouring in throughout the evening, the event raised nearly $6,000. Attendees enjoyed delicious food, drinks, and camaraderie while contributing to meaningful financial assistance to South Jersey cancer patients. The Cove’s warm atmosphere made it the perfect setting for the night’s festivities, proving that football, food and fundraising are a winning combination.
SJCF’s 60th Anniversary Walk
We raised nearly $10,000 to support cancer patients in our local community! This achievement would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors, vendors, donors, walkers and, of course, volunteers! Together, we walked to fight cancer and support those affected by this deadly disease. The funds will go a long way in providing essential services and resources to cancer patients and their families.
Brigantine Family Fun Day
Several of our volunteers were on hand to participate in the annual dunking booth. Thomas Hayes, 14, from Clearview Regional High School, was kind enough to take the plunge for us! Lots of dollars were raised and lots of dunking happened during this hour of fun!
SJCF Goes to a Ball Game
Some of the SJCF members and friends wanted to show support of their favorite baseball team – Philadelphia Phillies! A great time was had by all!

Quilt Raffle for SJCF
We will be raffling off a most unique quilt for those beach lovers at the upcoming Farmers Market on November 20th. The “Mermaid Quilt” was designed by Carol Poole, a national quilt competition winner and lecturer at the Fashion Institute of New York. Her award winning quilts have been exhibited in shows in New York, Florida and Georgia. She continues to teach in Florida.
Carol picked mermaids as they symbolize renewal. “Since mermaids are tied to the water element,” said Carole, “they embody the revitalization that water brings. The Mermaid Quilt was inspired by this concept.”
The raffle will take place at the Brigantine Farmers Market on November 20th. The tickets are $10 each. If you wish to purchase tickets in advance, please call Mary Crane @321-749-6749 or email her at marycrane46@comcast.net.
